Following line 2 which has operated rush-hour sectional trains from earlier this year, line 3, the most crowded route in the city, will embrace three more such trains to work from May 27. The trains will run one way from Tonghe to Dashi during the morning rush hour (7:50 – 8:45), according to an announcement by Guangzhou Metro Company.

In addition, Passengers who take the sectional trains can directly reach their destinations without any transferring of lines. Line 3 contains two routes, the main line Tianhe Coach Terminal Station (天河客运站)– Panyu Square (番禺广场)and the branch line Airport South Station (机场南) – Tiyu Xilu (体育西路). For those who want to change between the two routes, they usually have to transfer at Tiyu Xilu.

The measure is to relieve the pressure exerted on the busy section between Tonghe and Tiyu Xilu. According to the data of passenger flow in March, the loading rate of the line 3 branch line during the rush hour has increased to 139.1% of capacity, and 89% of the total passengers are travelling between the Tonghe and Dashi section. The move will improve the travel capacity of the line by 30% and reduce the waiting time of passengers and congestion within the station to a certain degree when crowd control is carried out.
