Guangzhou Plans to Build Yuexiu Exhibition Center

Guangzhou Urban Planning Bureau announced the construction of Yuexiu Exhibition Center on May 25 on the original site of the Jinhan Exhibition Center near Yuexiu Park. It's target is to support the Canton Fair and expanding the area for international exhibitions in Guangzhou.

The new exhibition center is located at the northwest boundary of Jiefang Beilu and Liuhua Lu. It aims at becoming one of the most important exhibition centers in the city once it is in service. The center consists of 2 towers and 3 annexes. The green land and transportation hub near Liuhua Lu will also be incorporated into the site. According to the plan, the height of the towers is limited to 60 meters.

The plan to build a new construction on that site was first mooted in 2001 when the old Guangzhou Gymnasium, originally located there, was demolished to make room for the Yuexiu Park metro station. The government planned to build an office tower named Guangzhou Sports Building, but the plan was not approved. Eventually, the Jinhan Exhibition Center became a temporary solution to the use the site until last December when it was demolished.
