HK Developer to Build Nansha Cruise Terminal

Hong Kong real estate developer Fok Ying Tung Group told local media on March 5 that the company propose to further boost the development of Nansha District (Guangzhou) in terms of tourism and cooperation with Hong Kong and Macao.

 

In the annual session of Nansha's Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Erik Fok, vice president of the company said they are building a cruise terminal and affiliated commercial facilities in the district. He planned to integrate the development of the terminal with the existing passenger ferry port there to attract more investment and to create a win-win relationship with the cruise business in Hong Kong and Macao.

 

Guangzhou Government also supports the building of a cruise terminal, as dsicussed in this year's government tourism affairs meeting.

 

As the new national developing zone's political advisor, Fok submitted a proposal to the conference on developing Nansha's yacht industry. He said the yachts can create even higher profits than the cars to local economy. He proposed to allow the yachts to travel freely between Nansha, Hong Kong and Macao, while yacht travel can push Nansha's development of its tourism economy.

 

Nansha held its first yacht trade fair in 2012. In three days, deals of 17 yachts were reached and over RMB 100 million of turnover was created. The district will continue with the trade fair this year.

 

In Fok's proposal, he also suggested to promote creative industries in Nansha. He wrote that the district should attract more companies and people within the creative industries internationally to settle there, and improve creative industry education with its own cultural characteristics.

 

The real estate group, founded by late Hong Kong tycoon Henry Fok Ying Tung, has been investing in Nansha since 1986.
