The annual Pearl River swim is just around the corner! This year's event is scheduled to take place at 2pm, July 23 and will see over 2000 participants swimming across the Guangzhou's mother river.

The swimming route, around 800 meters, starts from Zhongda pier near the Sun Yat-sen University and ends at the Xinghai Concert Hall across the river. Swimmers are divided into a competitor group and a public group as usual. The competitor group consists of 120 swimmers from different adjoining cities, while the public group will engage 2000 citizens divided into 40 teams in the activity.

The Pearl River swim is an annual event held by the Guangzhou government since 2006. The grand event involves swimmers from government departments and local families aims to remind people of protecting the mother river by swimming across it.

In addition to the host city Guangzhou, other five cities along the Pearl River including Foshan, Zhaoqing, Dongguan, Zhongshan and Qingyuan will send their swimmers to participate in the achievement of Pearl River cleaning.
