Cantonese Temple Fair 2014 is Coming Tomorrow

Cantonese Temple Fair, the most influential event of traditional Cantonese culture in Southern China, will celebrate its fourth edition tomorrow in Yuexiu District of Guangzhou.Tomorrow, February 14 of 2014, is Yuanxiao (Lantern) Festival, one of the most important traditional festivals, is really an infrequent moment combining Chinese Valentines’ Day and Western one, which will result in an unrivaled carnival for many people.


Cantonese Temple Fair will hold its opening ceremony at City God Temple tomorrow morning, highlighted by specific Cantonese show “Drink Morning Tea”, music and dance show, etc, with the theme of LOVE.


During the fair, there will be nearly 20 wonderful shows to be held in the next 7 days as follows:


Folk Parade

Folk Parade is one of the most popular activities in this fair. On Feb. 16, people will gather in the No. 13 High School at 10am, past City God Temple, Beijing Pedestrian Street and Wende Road, and then back to the starting point. Meanwhile, Yao minority dance show, marching orchestra band with members from Korea, Turkey, France and Hong Kong and other shows will add more highlights and interests to the parade.


Delicious Food

There will be 120 exhibition booths set along Huifu West Road and Fuxue West Street from Feb.14 to Feb.23, showcasing a variety of tasteful food and featured snacks.


Temple Fair Boat Cruise

It is a great chance to board the Temple Fair Boat cruising to Haixinsha to appreciate the most spectacular views along the Eastern part of Pearl River, adorned with traditional Cantonese Opera or Zither performance and other featured services. The three boats will set out once every night of Feb.14-20


Non-heritage Projects

It is one of the amazing highlights of this fantastic event. 18 non-heritage activities and 8 folk craft shows will be held during Cantonese Temple Fair, including egg carving, handmade chopsticks, pith paper painting, Cantonese embroidery, etc.


Other highlights include Xiling Painting Exhibition, art and culture lectures, exotic shows of Africa, Korea and France, etc.
