Guangzhou
in Brief
Guangzhou is an ancient city that has
2800 years' history. Since the ancient times, Guangzhou
has been a Chinese port for foreign trade and external
connections. It is the biggest port city in China and
it is called the "Flower City".
“Sui” is short for Guangzhou; another name
of it is "Sheep City". In the ancient times,
it was called Fanyu. Guangzhou has a long history. People
have lived here since the period of New Stone Times.
In the year 214, after Emperor Qin sent Renxiao and
Zhaotuo to South Yue, Fanyu became the political center
of Lingnan. And it was set up as a county. In the late
times of Eastern Han, it was changes into Jiaozhou.
In 226, the eastern part of Jiaozhou became the part
of Guangzhou, and the name Guangzhou has 1700 year's
history till now.
In the period of Five Dynasties, Guangzhou was the capital
city of South Han, and it was still the biggest foreign
trade port and commercial city in China. In Tang dynasty,
it became the world-famous port. At that time, opened
a sea route to Arab and some western countries. This
route was called "the perfume way on sea".
The well-known Opium War broke out near Guangzhou.
The cook of Guangzhou is famous in the world. People
always say that Chinese cook is the best in the world
and Gunagzhou's cook is the best in China.
There are a lot of places of interest in Guangzhou.
Such as Sun Yat-sen's Memorial Hall, Zhenhai Tower,
Liurong Temple and Liuhua Lake, etc. |
