The Asian Games Brief

The Asian Games, also called the Asiad, is a multi-sport event held every four years among athletes from all over Asia since 1951. The games are regulated by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) under the supervision of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

The 16th Asian Games (also known as the XVI Asiad) will be held in Guangzhou, China from 12 November to 27 November 2010. Guangzhou will be the second city in China to host the games after Beijing in 1990. 41 events are scheduled to be contested, making it the largest Asian Games ever.

Officially there are 42 sports, among them 28 are featured in Olympic Games while the rest added as unique to the Asian Games. Cricket, DanceSport, Dragon Boat, Weiqi and Xiangqi will debut in this games, while Bodybuilding was dropped because of the judging controversy during 2006 Asian Games in Doha.
